Digital 2024: Pitcairn

The Pitcairn Islands has the lowest population count of any officially recognised state in the world, with the Pacific island’s most recent census in 2017 identifying just 49 permanent residents and 5 expatriates.

Reports indicate that the majority – perhaps even all – of Pitcairn’s residents use the internet at least some of the time.

However, the small size of the nation’s population means that any data relating to digital activity could potentially identify specific individuals.

As a result, we’ve elected not to publish any details of internet activity in the country in 2023, in order to protect residents’ privacy.
